it's navy strength gin season!

Happy, sunny Friday! This summer-like weather is making it hard to get work done…

I’ve been writing a number of essays of late, and have also visited a handful of new cocktail bars — among them Ada Street, with drinks dreamed up by one of my favorite bartenders, Tim Lacey (who was for a long while at The Drawing Room); and the gin-centric Scofflaw (not quite enough gin for me, but more on that later), which took over the old Streetside venue (rest in peace, terrible Streetside) and is a quick bike-ride away. Logan Square just keeps getting better & better: Our local movie theater is about to re-open after a gut-rehab, complete with a cocktail bar! I’m totally going to see Goonies tomorrow, btw.

The most exciting news of the week landed in my in-box late last night: my itinerary for my upcoming media trip to London & Plymouth, England! There are so many amazing things on the agenda, but I was most excited by the turn of a new phrase for what’s likely an old tradition: a “bar safari” — so much more hip than a “bar crawl.” I am picturing all of us in a Jeep driving past exotic-looking lounges…it’s weird. Anyway, I’m excited to get my hands on a Navy Strength bottle of Plymouth, which isn’t out in the States till summertime, according to a reliable source. ‘Tis the season.
